KDG invests 23 million Euros in Lorraine
French number 2 on the CD and DVD market, the KDG group is launching a new business as it opens "KDG Energy", a subsidiary dedicated to renewable energies. KDG intends to produce 200,000 photovoltaic panel modules on its site in Sainte-Marguerite (Vosges, Lorraine). An activity that is not totally unrelated to the company's existing know-how, given that, like optical disks, photovoltaic technology uses crystalline silicon to metallise plastic.
The 50 MW panel assembly line will go into production in a 5,000 sq. metre building in December 2010. KDG is expecting to reach a turnover of 70 million Euros. 70 jobs should be created in 2011, rising to a total of 150 by 2013. Eventually, the group's financial investment will amount to 33 million Euros.
