Metz-Nancy Lorraine Airport
With its four Departements, Meurthe-et-Moselle, Meuse, Moselle and Vosges, Lorraine is a French region ideally situated at the heart of Europe.
Logistics and the automotive industry are two examples that illustrate well the changes that have occurred in the regional economy. Their strong development has been possible thanks to the specific characteristics and know-how that Lorraine has to offer. The growth in logistics can be explained in particular by the advantageous position of Lorraine at the crossroads of the major European traffic routes (East-West and North-South). The automotive industry's development is the result of a well-controlled pool of industrial skills.
The whole of Lorraine's history shows that the region has always been ahead of its times. The modern steel industry was developed here, including the continuous casting and rolling techniques. The globalisation of the economy took its first steps here with the birth of the ECSC (European Coal and Steel Community). The creation of the European single market was tested in the middle of the 1980s with the European Three Borders Pole between France, Belgium and Luxembourg.
Lorraine has always innovated in the technical and human areas. The manpower requirements of the "Texas" of Lorraine made the region an example of successful integration. Later, industrial redevelopment led to the emergence of new social organisations. This is why Lorraine is a melting pot and centre for exchanges and sharing, and this continues today as we attract foreign investors.
The wealth of know-how available in Lorraine can be grasped through a few examples, all of them representing considerable challenges. The steel in the Eiffel Tower was made in Lorraine. The region is the cradle of the great French crystal makers (Baccarat, Saint Louis…), the most renowned enamels and faience works (Longwy, Lunéville, Sarreguemines…).
